Roseville - the school

Roseville Public School was built and opened on August 19th, 1913 with just 30 pupils. It began as an Infant’s School with Ms Fanny Pickering as its first mistress. From a humble beginning in 1913, Roseville Public School has grown into a loved and respected community icon.

Enrolment at Roseville Public School is only currently available to the children of residents that live within the school's boundaries. Families seeking to enrol at Roseville should ensure that they check the boundaries of the school with the school office before committing to purchasing or renting a property in Roseviile.

School Vision

The core business of our school is to provide a comprehensive education which caters for the specific needs of all learners. We believe every child has a right to a quality education which fosters a love of learning and empowers students to become life long learners. Our school provides a happy, safe, and secure environment where students, teachers and parents enjoy learning and working together. We are endeavouring to develop responsible, questioning, critical thinking students. A strong values based foundation is provided to equip children to make responsible decisions about learning and life.

School Overview

Recently RPS has seen and increment in enrollment numbers. This year we have 621 students - 51 more than last year. There are 314 boys and 307 girls which gives as a very good gender ratio in our co-ed learning environment. There are 299 students enrolled in Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two and the higher levels have a total of 322 students. We have 24 classes with an average of 22 in each Kindergarten class, 23 in each Year 1 class and 28 in each Year 2-6 class.

Our school is a school where the children enjoy coming every day. Teachers and parents work together to provide a stimulating learning environment for all students. Our students are academically challenged and perform with distinction in state-wide tests and competitions.

The school has a strong Learning Support Team developed to support the learning of all students as they progress through the school. The Learning Support Team is responsible for such initiatives as the Literacy Support Programme, training parents as Reading Tutors and supporting gifted students with extension programmes such as Tournament of Minds and The Robocup Challenge. Vacation Enrichment Programmes, and the Mathematics In-class Programme have been past initiatives. Additionally, the Learning Support Team meets each week and overviews all student assessment, tracks and monitors student achievement and maintains a database of students requiring additional enrichment or support. The Learning Support Team also analyse results from Basic Skills Tests and NSW University Competitions to identify who might be in need of extension or support as well as to identify any general trends that might need addressing through further teacher training or the implementation of specific school programmes.

school band

The school encourages participation in many areas with a view to achieving ones personal best. 160 students participate in our band program. We have a Beginners Band, Junior Band and Concert Band. We also have a Stage Band and Wind Ensemble. Our Bands perform publicly, enjoying success in competitions and festivals. Wherever possible, they also perform for special events within the school and for school assemblies.

Students develop strong relationships with their teachers. Many teachers share their own personal interests and skills with our students.

softball

All students are involved in a comprehensive sports program. Students can represent the school in softball, netball, cricket, rugby, soccer, T ball, athletics, tennis, basketball, cross country and swimming. Many students gain district representative honours and it is not unusual for Roseville Public School to have state representatives in various sporting disciplines.

SCHOOL CREST and MOTTO

Facta non Verba ("Deeds above Words") Our school crest is proudly displayed on our facilities, uniforms and bags.

Student Welfare

Ideas generated by students that relate to their learning and leadership are eagerly saught. Our Student Representative Council is run by our student leaders with representatives from each class attending monthly meetings where issues important to the students are discussed and ideas are presented. Additionally, students run our weekly assemblies. Year 6 students are elected by the students for the positions of School Captains, Vice Captains, House Captains and Band Captains and SRC office bearers.

School Policies

There are a number of policies in place which support learning, health and welfare. Two such policies are our "No Nuts for Me! and "Asthma Friendly"

No Nuts for Me!

Roseville Public School is a Nut Free Zone . Anaphylaxis is more than a food intolerance. It is a life threatenng allergy! Several of our students and staff are effected and their safety is the responsibility of all members of the school community. Please reinforce our school policies relating to food sharing as well as nuts and nut products and respect our "nut free zone. For further information follow this link to www.allergyfacts.org.au

Asthma Friendly

RPS is "asthma friendly." This means we have adopted 8 strategies for the better management of asthma in our school. This involves the whole school community in providing a more supportive and understanding environment for students with asthma so that they are able to participate fully in daily school activities. We encourage children with asthma to develop management plans in consultation with their doctor. These plans help children understand their asthma and will help prevent attacks by prescribing the correct medication. If your child has asthma please advise Mrs Mason so that staff are aware of your child's needs. The Asthma Foundation are advising parents and carers to be on guard during February as this is the time of year that traditionally sees a peak in the condition. Asthma is a serious condition but it responds well to preventative strategies. For further details contact the Asthma Foundation on 1800 645 170 or visti their website at www.asthmansw.au
