School Leaders

School leaders duties include organising and leading school assemblies, escorting visitors on school tours, organising student fundraising initiatives for children not as fortunate as the children attending our school and representing the school at community functions.

House System

At Roseville Public School, the Years 3-6 student body is divided into four houses. Students are allocated to each House according to alphabetic surnames. The Houses are named after early Roseville pioneers.

House points are awarded each week for positive behaviour, attitude and performance. They are announced each week at the primary assembly. Sports carnival competition is organised on a house basis. Last year the most successful house was Archbold. Year Six students are elected as House Captains and Vice Captains each year. This year's House Captains are:

Fiona and Lachy - Archbold; Catriona and Olivia - Babbage; James and Sascha - Fidden: Mackenzie and Bella - Matthew.

Band Captains

There are over 200 students participating in our Band program this year. Band Captains assist the parent coordinators, assist with the Beginners' Band, help out at Band Camp and assist with speeches and presentations at Band Camp and Musicale. This years band captains are Claudia and Andy.

Student Representative Council

Each class from Years 2 - 6 vote for nominated representatives early in the year. The SRC meets twice a term with the elected representatives attending student meetings to discuss issues and student ideas. Meetings follow recognised meeting procedures with students moving, seconding and voting on motions after there has been opportunities for discussion among the members.

Special Memories

  • Shallon remembers the Great Aussi Bush Camp as an important time as it was at this camp , according to Shallon that everyone got to know each other much better.
  • The best thing that Katherine remembers about RPS was being selected for the Senior Girls' Dance group.
  • A strong memory of Kindergarten for Tia was when she and Anneleise were tied together with a rope to make them stop fighting all the time. It must have been a successful strategy she said, because they are now the best friends.
  • For Amber the funniest thing that happened in Kindergarten was when Mrs Watson wanted the Kindis to have a rest each afternoon she would make the students lie down and put a smartie on everyone’s head. Amber, Ellie Connor and Ellie Shearer would eat their smartie and then tell Mrs Watson they hadn’t got one yet.
  • When Natalie was asked if she wished she could have gone to another school at the end of Year 4 she responded that she was glad she hadn’t because she valued her last two years at RPS. Nat’s strong memories are The Surfin Safari, The Snow Trip and the GABC.
  • Catelina said, “Thank you Roseville Public you are awesome and have been awesome to me”.

  • Belinda's most embarrassing moment was in Kindergarten when she and Mel were busted for playing in the bathrooms.
  • For Levon having Mrs Barrie in Year 4 was very significant for him because she helped him develop his English and Maths skills. And what makes this school good for Levon…it is Mrs Barrie. And what will Levon miss most about about RPS…Mrs Barrie… but also, he said… Miss Tolman and all of the kids in Year 6.
  • When asked if he wished his parents had of taken him to another school at the end of Year 4 Olly responded, “No Way if this was a high school I would be going to high school here!.
  • When asked how the school could be improved for future students Olly said, “ Nothing, leave it as it is, you can’t perfect perfection. ..there is no other school, this is the cream of the crop.”
  • Matthew’s strongest memory occurred at the beginning of Year 5 when the names were being read out for the classes and it suddenly dawned on Matthew that there would be no girls in 5T. Interestingly, the significant life skills that Matt said he had learnt were about socialising.
  • Nick remembers Mr Dejean as a very significant teacher because he was the most memorable. The life skills that Nick has learnt are to be kind and caring to everyone and that it is OK to be different. The best thing that has happened to Nick is just being a part of the school community. It feels good, he said.
  • The best thing Stuart remembers about being in K-2 was how great it was to be going to the Peddlars Parade. The most embarrassing thing for Stuart was seeing how silly the teachers looked in their pyjamas at the recent mufti day.
  • Stephen's most embarrassing moment was in year Six when he was in band and was sent out for laughing and everyone was whispering, "School Captain, School Captain." Like Levon, Stephen’s significant memory of a teacher is of Mrs Barrie because she was so organised.
  • Daniel will miss the kindness of the staff and especially Miss T because she taught Daniel to be more positive and not to be negative. And in Kindergarten, Daniel remembers that he had to show the computer technician how to fix a Power Mac. He thinks the school could be improved if everyone could bring a laptop to school.
  • Angus’ most enjoyable memory of the K-2 section of the school was having Ms Britt and he enjoyed the fact that in K-2 he had no homework. Angus thinks the only thing that needs to happen to improve the school is to get a swimming pool.
  • The thing that Oscar enjoyed most about Year 6 was meeting the girls and having a small year. The best thing that has happened to Oscar was meeting Ms T and Olly Brown. Oscar said if he were to give any advice to parents considering enrolling their children at RPS it would be ( and I quote) “Do it and don’t send your kids to bloody private school later on”.
  • Nick enjoyed singing the songs in K-2 and thought that Ms Britt was his most significant teacher because she taught him a lot and made learning fun. The saddest thing for Nick in Kindergarten was having to leave his mum to go to school.
  • Matt found the Bounce Back program and Miss Tolman’s talks about Chasing Your Dreams and learning about the importance of integrity and about having self confidence as being very important for him. Matthew said he was shocked at being elected SRC leader. He said he was very surprised that he was chosen for a leadership role. ( and it goes without saying that he and Nat and Claudia were exemplary leaders of the SRC)

Past Students

Many notable Australians have passed through the gates of Roseville Public School and an active association represents their continuing influence and participation in our school community.

Dick Smith has visited our school in his helicopter. This was a highlight for all our students but particularly our Year 6 group who were looking at adventuring and adventurers as part of their learning programme. Mr Smith enjoyed his visit too and spent time in his old classrooms before joining the staff for morning tea. It was also a particular highlight for our principal Mrs Richmond and our Year 6 teachers - Mrs Cordaiy, Mrs Butler and Mrs Hansen who all 'enjoyed' a trip in the helicopter and a lovely bird's eye view of Sydney on a magical Sydney day.

Other ex-students include; Andrew Denton, Bronwyn Bishop, Mike Gibson and Dick Treloar.

For the school’s 85th Birthday a wonderful video was made featuring many of the past and present students and staff. This video can be borrowed from our school library.
